Mumbai-based Sana Khan witnessed the advantages and disadvantages of being a celebrity a few weeks back when she had to issue many clarifications to save her name and image after Sana Khan, a little known small-time actress hailing from Mumbai, was held by the Bangalore Police on charges in indulging in flesh trade and remanded to police custody.
The headlines in the print media screaming ‘Sana arrested on prostitution charges’ made life hell for our own Sana. Sana, who was in Mumbai at that time, couldn’t tolerate her name getting dragged in the issue unnecessarily and even sent legal notices to some magazines and dailies which had carried her photo while publishing the above news item.
The very next day, the Bangalore police clarified with proof as to which ‘Sana’ was arrested by them. She was in Chennai chatting with press-persons and said “I was in the process of shifting my house in Mumbai to a different locality and wasn’t even aware about the news. Soon, I started getting calls from my friends and relatives.
“The pain and humiliation I underwent on that day can’t be described in words. The media chose not to publicize though the Bangalore police even released the photo of the other Sana who was arrested. The very next day, I took part in the shoot of a Telugu film’s shoot and could feel the probing stares of people around me. Thankfully, I’m out of those agonizing moments now,” said Sana.Sana now plays the lead role in the remake of the popular Bollywood hit film The Dirty Picture wherein she plays the role of ‘Silk’ Smitha, the former ‘item girl’ and a successful heroine in Tamil films. The Malayalam version is directed by Anthony Eastman, who incidentally introduced Smitha in Malayalam films more than a couple of deades back. Anthony assures that the film would reveal the ‘real’ Smitha to her fans.
