Shahrukh Khan is detained at the New York Airport for about two hours by immigration officials. Shahrukh Khan was travelling in a private plane with industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s wife, Neeta Ambani. Shahrukh Khan was in New York to address the students of Yale University.
While Neeta Ambani and rest of the group was cleared immediately by the immigration authorities, Shahrukh Khan was detained for about two hours.
Shahrukh Khan was scheduled to meet the press at 2PM and deliver his speech at Yale University at 4PM. People has traveled from nearby areas to listen to the superstar Shahrukh Khan.
It is being said that when Yale University authorities came to know about Shahrukh Khan’s detention at the US Airport, they became active. A source told a leading English Daily, University authorities “contacted and spoke with officials at the Department of Homeland Security and Department of US Immigration and Customs in Washington.”
Yale University authorities said that Shahrukh Khan was very upset with his detention and it took time for the University officials to calm him down.
Shahrukh Khan was late for the press meet and his scheduled lecture at Yale University could only start at 6PM. Shahrukh Khan made light of his detention at US Airport by US immigration officials. He said, “Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself I always take a trip to America.”
Us custom officials apologized to Indian consulate for the detention of Shahrukh Khan at the US Airport. But India’s Foreign Minister is not amused. India’s Foreign Minister reacted strongly to Shahrukh Khan detention at US Airport by immigration officials. He said, “This has become of a habit of detention of apology , which cannot continue.” He asked Indian Ambassadress Nirupama Rao to take up Shahrukh Khan detention at US Airport with USA officials.
Javed Akhtar and Mahesh Bhatt reacted angrily to Shahrukh Khan’s detention at the US Airport. He suggested that India should do the same to US citizens. Mahesh Bhatt said if you don’t want to humiliate yourself, don’t go to USA.
