Aamir Khan debut TV show, ‘Satyamev Jayate’ has landed in legal tangle. Lead singer of ‘Euphoria’ band, Palash Sen has accused the music composer Ram Sampath of copying the title track of Satyamev Jayate.
Palash Sen was talking to a leading daily about the title track of Satyamev Jayate. He said, “The trailers and the anthem of this show have been running on television for quite a while, but I had not seen the videos. When I heard it, I was shocked. In 2000, Euphoria released its second album Phir Dhoom, and one of its songs was named Satyameva Jayate. And the chorus of composer Ram Sampath`s version of Satyamev Jayate is exactly the same as the chants in our song. They`ve basically used the same refrain. Jo baaki ka gaana hai, that has different words and tune. But the mainstay of the song – the chorus – is ours. Which is why I`ve sent a legal notice to them.”Palash Sen has also said that if Ram Sampath has sought his permission to use his track of Phir Dhoom, he would have allowed it without taking any money. Palash Sen just emphasized the fact that all he would have asked for is a small credit to the band.
Music composer of Satyamev Jayate has refused to comment on Palash Sen’s accusation. He said he is unaware of Palash Sen’s legel notice so he decided to keep mum.
Aamir Khan’s earlier movies have received such accusation too. Known writer Chetan Bhagat had accused the 3 Idiots team of using his ideas from his book and not giving due credit to him at the right place. Another controversy is related with Peepli Live’s song “Mehangai Dayan Khaye Jaat Hai”. A group claimed that Aamir Khan’s team has used their song and the group was not being paid adequately for their song.
People are also questioning Palash Sen’s timing. The track of Satyamev Jayate was being promoted on various channels for more than twenty days. But Palash Sen has not objected during that period. People are wondering why Palash Sen has chosen to break his silence after the first episode of Satyamev Jayate has been aired?
