From Bollywood Celebs Saif Ali Khan to Vivek Oberoi,
Indian Cricketer Kapil Dev to Virendra Sehwag, many celebrities have
joined hands with the Delhi Traffic Police to spread awareness about
road safety measures among Delhiites.
But in a drive to target women speedsters of the capital, it has been heard that Malaika Arora Khan
is in talks to host a road safety show. If sources are to be believed,
talks are on for a road show on safety by the “Chaiyyan Chaiyyan” actor,
who will also do a show for the Delhi police in July.
A police officer, on the condition
of anonymity, told DT, “Women these days are driving really fast. We
have challaaned a lot of young women for over-speeding – they are
driving close to 130-140km per hour. With Malaikashowing
a keen interest in doing something for Delhi’s traffic and safety, we
thought it best to rope her in to promote safe driving among women.
Through that show, Malaika will put across the message that driving at
such high speed is OK in the movies, where there is a fancy environment,
but not on real roads.”
According to sources, the actress approached Delhi Traffic Police
last Friday, and expressed her interest in promoting safe driving in
Delhi. “Talks are still on, as to how she can be best utilised to
promote safety measures among women drivers. The final decision will
come through in the first week of July,” a source said. Satyendra Garg,
Jt CP, Traffic, had on an earlier occasion, said, “We feel that people
will become more responsible after celebrities, who are role models for
millions, ask them to follow traffic rules. Roping in stars helps in
magnifying the impact of our safety campaigns.”
For her Delhi Police show, Malaika Arora Khan will be joined by the star cast of a new film that is going to be released in July. Buzz has it that it might be “Cocktail”. Saif,
who had campaigned for Delhi Police in April last year to promote road
safety, might lend his support once again, though there is no official
confirmation on this yet.
