Small time Kollywood Actress Alphonsa attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills after her lover and live-in companion allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her apartment in Virugambakkam in the city in the early hours of today.Police said Alphonsa, who had done some item numbers in popular films like Rajnikanth-starrer ‘Basha‘, had returned from Dubai early this morning after attending a show. Soon after she reached her home, a wordy duel ensued between her and her companion Vinod Kumar who was a dance master and had also acted in some films.
Alphonsa, who was already married, had been in a live-in relationship with Vinod for the last one year. A quarrel broke out between them after which both of them retired to bed. A few hours later, Alphonsa woke up only to see Vinod’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.
A shocked Alphonsa lodged a complaint with the Virugambakkam Police who questioned her and sought details about the nature of the quarrel.
A dejected Alphonsa, returned home from Police station and attempted suicide by consuming heavy dose of sleeping pills after police shifted Vinod‘s body to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. Her neighbours found her unconscious and rushed her to a private hospital in the city where she was being treated. While Alphonsa claimed Vinod had committed suicide, his relatives suspected foul play and demanded action against the actress and also wanted the police to ascertain the exact reason for Vinod taking the extreme step.
